What is Air Cooled Air Conditioning?

Air Cooled Air Conditioning is a refrigeration process that allows warm air to pass through a refrigerated Air Handler coil and blow out cold air. This refrigeration process is done by using 3 key components; Indoor Air Handler, Outdoor Condensing Unit and a Compressor. The Indoor Air Handler will be placed  inside the room you wish to cool or placed in another room as long as both the supply and return air openings are ducted from the Air Handler to the area you wish to cool. This Air Handler is equipped with a refrigerated A-Coil and a Scroll cage Blower Fan. The air comes in from the return air opening (bottom) and passes past the refrigerant cooled A-Coil then into the Blower fan and out the supply air opening (top).

The Condensing Unit must be placed outside. The reason for this is because it acts much like a radiator on a car, it’s a large copper coil where refrigerant travels through many tubes and removes the heat by using both outdoor air and a large propeller fan to blow the heat away.

Lastly the compressor which is commonly found inside the Outdoor Condensing Unit or if talking about Excel Air Systems Stealth Series in a separate sound deadened box. The compressor is the driving force of the refrigerant, it’s sole purpose is to pump the cooling refrigerant from the Air Handler to the Condensing Unit.  

When this loop occurs the refrigerant will go from a gaseous state while it absorbs heat from inside the room using the A-Coil then pumps it to the Outdoor Condensing Unit where it dissipates the heat using both the surface area of the condenser coil and the large propeller fan cooling the refrigerant and turning it back into a liquid state.

XL Series:

The XL Series Air Cooled Air Conditioning unit is Excel’s flagship product and is built from a split system design. The Split System design allows for the indoor air handler to act as the blower inside while the outdoor condensing unit rejects indoor heat to the fresh air outside. This unit comes equipped with Plug and Play fittings making it your best choice for quick and easy installations. The XL series is available in sizes ranging from 2.0 TON (24,000 BTU) to 5.0 TON (60,000 BTU).

      Plug and Play refrigeration fittings make air cooled units simple to install by yourself; without the need of a costly certified installer. Each refrigeration line is pre-charged with the correct amount of refrigerant for your system. Just thread the fittings together and startup your system! The fittings are re-sealable unlike other copycats on the market meaning, if you need to take your system out for servicing or relocate your unit no refrigerant is lost and can be simply re-installed.

Stealth Series:

The Stealth Series is our newest product and is based on a Triple Split Design. This means that the compressor inside the Outdoor Condensing Unit is actually placed in a separate sound deadened box, fully eliminating any outdoor compressor noise. It’s the perfect solution for sound conscious installations (Sound Deadening Box shown with out cover on). This system has the Plug and Play feature as well providing quick and efficient connection and startup without the need of a certified installer. The Stealth series is available in sizes ranging from 2.0 TON (24,000 BTU) to 5.0 TON (60,000 BTU).

Also as an add-on you can install a 5-25kW Electric heater into the air handler to maintain nighttime temperatures from falling too low.

Control Two Rooms With One System

 A Damper Control Package is used to control the temperature in two rooms. Only one room per cycle will be controlled using only one Air Handler. There are two motorized dampers connected to the supply air and two motorized dampers connected to the return air. One set of dampers will be connected to Room 1 (Supply and Return) which will be configured as the “OPEN” state and one set of dampers will be connected to Room 2 (Supply and Return) which will be configured as the “CLOSED” state.

 When Room 1 is “ON” both the supply and return dampers will be open and the room’s digital thermostat will become energized. When Room 2 is “ON” the motorized dampers from Room 1 will close and Room 2 will open. On the flip Room 1 thermostat will turn off while Room 2 becomes energized.
